I have been to see a few doctors about trichotillomania and the first one I went to is pretty old and traditional but he still treated me with respect - which I was surprised by - I didn't use the term 'trichotillomania' just in case they had no idea what it meant. My sister is a doctor and she knew nothing about it.
Trichotillomania is something that only a few doctors would have heard about.
If your doctor was to treat you as if you are weird that would be worth complaining about and changing your doctor. They have no right to treat you with disrespect.
A doctor could give you medication - which is very helpful to some people, I have found my anti-depressants have not helped my urges but may have helped my anxiety.
The doctor could refer you to a psychologist - I demanded that I be sent to a psychologist. A psychologist can do habit reversal training or cbt which is helpful. I have benefited from both - especially cbt as I often pull due to anxiety and cbt has helped me manage my anxiety.
I know you posted back in March but I really hope you get an email alert or something! _________________ trichsterknitster at wordpress
